The Tanmesad is an odd place. The integration of Cardassian and humanoid personnel has always made for a continuous sense of tension. This was even more eerily not present in engineering. Glinn Carson Warren had taken Cardassian Rank long before it was common on the Tanmesad and long before the 2389 reorganization to a Cardassian appearance.

Carson Warren has been able to well integrate with the Cardassians because it is a necessity in Engineering. Unless everyone is working together, there is no functionality. Carson had engrained this culture in Sydney Love, his protege and computer expert. Sydney and the Cardassians were working together in relative cohesion when it happened.

A massive crash was heard in engineering. It was unbelievable. Carson yelled, "What the hell is going?"

Vash was soon on the comm-link, "Warren, what just happened?"

"We appear to have lost a large chunk of rudder control equipment from our tail.", Warren responded.

"Can you control the ship?", Gul Enranet looked at Commander S'Ari.

"Barely.", the Vulcan responded.

"Shut her down.", Vash ordered.

When the warp engines came off line, the Tanmesad automatically went into yellow alert. Tania and Christina were enjoying a nice afternoon tea when the ship went to yellow. Tania rushed to the bridge.

"What is happening?", the Borg Disconnect asked.

"The ship has lost main rudder control.", Vash exclaimed.

"Are there any injuries?", Giancarla also activated by the yellow alert walked onto the bridge.

"None, thus far.", Vash responded.

"What happens now?", Tania asked.

"We need to find out if the piece is salvageable.", Vash ordered.

"On it already, boss.", Carson responded.

"We need to grab the piece with the worker bee and put it into place.", Carson looked at his staff.

"We need a pilot and an engineer in the bee.", Sydney explained.

"I will stay here and integrate the parts.", Carson responded.

"I will go.", Sydney responded, hoping that he and Commander S'Ari would get the opportunity to go together.

Vash was not prepared to give up his best pilot and the Flight Commander. Instead the Xindi, Tchilack went.

Sydney looked at the Xindi, "Expendible?"

"I guess so.", Click grumbled.

Click and Syd soon gathered the broken piece. With some excellent work by the engineering department, the piece was reintegrated into the ships tail.

Vash walked down to engineering, "Are you ready to fire up?"

"Ready as we will ever be.", Carson responded.

"Is it safe and ready to go?", Vash was not ready to tear up his old bucket of bolts just yet.

"We will hold her together, boss.", Carson grinned.

The Tanmesad was soon moving once again towards the new colony. Carson looked at Sydney, "I guess to boldly go does not mean to go without incident."

Sydney started to laugh, "That's why I am in engineering, always keeps you on your toes."
