Minister Garak was invited by the Legate of the Free Cardassia Fleet to speak in Lakaria City. The Detapa Council has agreed not to make an attempt on the life of Minister Garak or to make a threat against the Free Cardassian Movement. The Detapa Council had actually been very cordial in their approach to the speaking engagement for Minister Garak. The Free Cardassia Movement had used this to their advantage moving in members of the Cardassian Guard loyal to the Hebetian Government.

The Cardassian Guard is planning to take at least a portion of the city. This is where the Tanmesad becomes involved. Vash was in his ready room when the Legate made the request. The Tanmesad, because of its loyalty to Cardassia and its service to Minister Garak would not been seen as a threat or as a warship. The Free Cardassia Movement would like to use that to its advantage and land the Cardassian Galor Class in Lakaria City to use literally as a battle station in the establishment of the capture of half of the center of Cardassian Culture.

Vash is being asked to act in this espionage role. He believed in the movement but this was very underhanded, very Cardassian. Vash would have done this in a heartbeat in his previous life. He now was questioning his morals for betraying the trust of his own people in order to establish this division of Lakaria City. He walked out on to the bridge.

He handed the PADD to Commander T'Zohl.

"Are you seriously thinking of doing this?", the Vulcan asked. She too had served in the Cardassian Guard.

"I am asking you. Can you do it?", Vash asked.

"Land the Galor. Of course.", T'Zohl responded.

Vash handed the PADD to Valerie, "Commander Bell can you arrange with Autumn and Violet and prepare them to assist in the establishment of the division wall in support of the Cardassian Guard."

"We are doing this? Do you know what this means?", Valerie asked.

"I know.", Vash explained.

Tania walked on to the bridge, "The Berlin Wall (German: Berliner Mauer) was a concrete barrier built by the German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) that completely enclosed the city of West Berlin, separating it from East Germany, including East Berlin. The Wall included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, which circumscribed a wide area (later known as the "death strip") that contained anti-vehicle trenches, "fakir beds" and other defenses.

The separate and much longer Inner German Border (the IGB) demarcated the border between East and West Germany. Both borders came to symbolize the Iron Curtain between Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc.

The West Berlin city government sometimes referred to it as the Wall of Shame, a term coined by Willy Brandt."

Vash looked at Tania, "I am familiar with Earth history."

"And with the Wall of Shame.", Tania responded.

"I know what it means.", Vash responded.

Commander T'Zohl turned back, "Cardassia Prime, now in sight. Last chance."

Vash sat down. He was ashamed. He was dividing his people, dividing families, assisting in the end of Cardassia as he knew her.

"Valerie, inform the Detapa Council of our intentions to observe the speaking engagement.", Vash frowned.

He had done it. Commander T'Zohl landed the Tanmesad in the corridor of Lakaria City.

Vash walked down to the Cargo Bay. He looked at Autumn and an army of Federation Marines and Cardassian Guard. He took a deep breath as the marines prepared the fence material. He looked at Autumn, "Captain Laree, we have only one shot at this. Once you are out of the ship, you cannot return until the separation is established."

Autumn looked at Vash, "There will not be another Flynn incident"

She referred to the death of her cousin on the ice planet.

Vash looked at the marines, "May the Oracle of Cardassia protect you."

Valerie called down to the Cargo Bay, "We have the Go"

Vash looked at Autumn, "Make us proud."

Vash walked back up to the bridge and watched as he and his staff achieved one of the great victories in the history of the Tanmesad and of Free Cardassia but it was a hollow victory. This was a giant leap backwards.

Vash looked at the viewer when Minister Garak appears, "Welcome to West Lakaria, the Capital of Free Cardassia."

T'Zohl lifted off the Tanmesad and returned to orbit.

Victories of this nature do not often bare celebration. The bridge was totally quiet as the Tanmesad disappeared into high orbit returning to Deep Space 92 for supplies.
